As he drove Pippa's car, following the directions from her GPS, Akeem took a moment to reflect on what was happening. It still felt a little surreal. She was young, beautiful, with an intoxicating smell that had the wolf pace inside him restlessly, even now. He did not know what she saw in him, but he would not fight his good luck. Far from calming his desire, the short car ride only served to build anticipation, and he was glad she had thought ahead, so they only needed to pick up the keycard.

Pippa laid on the bed for a moment, blissed out and smiling, but then a sharp scent hit her and she sat up. The door was ajar and the scent was definitely coming from there. As she rose and came closer it all but assaulted her, that wild note that Akeem had, but a thousand times stronger.

"What are you doing?" she asked as she pushed the door open and caught sight of a mass of black fur and not a man to be found.

Akeem hadn't been anywhere near ready to shift back, and he started when the door opened, balance shifting to his hind legs so that he was ready to pounce. Instinct when startled. He was huge, bigger than most dogs she might ever have seen, his fur almost gleaming black, a healthy glow he lacked in human form. But his eyes were the same colour, green with a hazel stardust, even more striking on the black wolf than on a Middle Eastern man, and they watched Pippa warily, unsure of her reaction.

Pippa arched a brow and then leaned her bare, trim frame against the door jamb, blocking him in.

"Well, now. I've been with blokes who had secrets, but this one takes the cake. I knew you smelled wild," she said with a smile. And then, since he had shown her his secret, however unintentionally, she decided she give him a taste of hers. A wave of her hand and her power surged forth, illuminating the air around her hand with shimmers and sparkles. She reached out to him with it and a single finger touched his nose, passing a surge of fae magic into him.

She giggled.

If there was one thing the wolf didn't like, it was being kept anywhere. Having the door blocked put Akeem on edge, and there was a low growl of warning when Pippa reached out to touch him. But then he made a surprised sound at the feeling of her magic, warm and wild, just like the way she smelled.

It was so long since Akeem had been a wolf around anyone, and he had to focus and try a few times before managing a single, rough word that was more like a quiet bark. "What?"

"Come back to bed, love," Pippa said simply, and turned around to go climb back under the covers.

Given how much effort it had taken to say the one word, Akeem would have been glad for an answer. He growled briefly, then shook his head, and trotted back into the hotel bedroom. Shifting back already would be a mistake, so he stood by the bed, still in his wolf form, to make a point. Maybe she'd expected him to shift back, when it would not happen for a while.

Pippa took hold of his head behind his ears and pressed her forehead against his without a trace of fear.

"Come back to bed," she said. "We'll talk more in the morning."

Akeem gently disengaged his head to jump onto the bed and lie down on top of the covers, his fur more than enough to keep him warm. He curled up beside her, watching her curiously as he laid his head down on his front paws. This evening was not getting any less odd, but he would take it.

Pippa snuggled in close to him, her fingers working into his fur. Magic emanated from her, the perfume of her all the stronger because of it.

"I'm a faerie," she said after a long moment. "It's only fair you know that."

It was not exactly a surprise, but Akeem was convinced that there was more to it than that, and not just because she did not make him as wary as they usually did. She simply didn't quite smell like any Fae he'd smelled before. But having a conversation right now would be far too difficult, and her fingers felt wonderful stroking through his fur. He made a soft whine of something like assent, and thanks, and nosed at the side of her face before settling back down.

She breathed him in an for the first night in many, since Grandfather's death, actually, Pippa drifted off to sleep peacefully. She felt quite secure. Yes, they may have only met, and yes she was still spinning with the liquor in her blood, but she knew in her heart she wasn't wrong to place her faith in Akeem. So she held on, snggled closer, breathed in his wild, gamey scent, and slept until dawn.

The wolf's usual restlessness was fortunately tampered down by Akeem's exhaustion, and he was content to sleep. He did pull the covers up over Pippa at some point, when he noticed the goosebumps on her arms, tugging them up with his mouth, as careful as he could be not to tear them with his fangs. Then he curled up beside her again and dozed off, until his inner clock woke him with the approach of dawn. He was mostly rested now, although that meant that the wolf had grown more restless, but he focused on Pippa's scent to help settle himself down. When she stirred, sharp green eyes were watching her, and Akeem thought with a sigh that he ought to shift back, now.

Pippa slept well, snuggled close. Her fingers kept curled in his fur. It was a rare moment of weakness where she allowed herself a bit of weakness. A bit of comfort. The wolf was strong, protective, and she could sleep in peace.

She woke slowly, rolling away from him and blinking away her drowsiness. She stretched and yawned and then sat up.

"Oh, my god, I have such a head," she lamented.

Akeem pushed up to his feet on the bed, and nosed his hello at her shoulder before trotting off the bed, and to the bathroom. He shifted back, mostly hidden from view, and put on his wedding band and the bracelet with Laura's on it, which he'd taken off right before shifting. His hands were trembling slightly from the shift, but he'd be fine in just a moment. And even better once he'd taken his vitamins, but of course he didn't have them here.

He took a few moments to splash some water on his face, drank a little from the tap, then filled a glass and brought it back to her. "Hydration will help," he offered quietly, his voice still raw, as he held out the drink. He then turned away to find his underwear. He supposed that they ought to talk, and he would feel less self-conscious if he wasn't entirely naked for it.

She was shamelessly naked as she drank down the water and then flopped back on the bed, Her bare body was inviting and she smiled at him sweetly.

"I think we should probably talk, hmm?" she said. "Unless you've got to go to a job..."

She definitely looked inviting, but Akeem knew better than to assume that someone looking inviting was the same as someone issuing an invitation, or that former consent still held in the present. "I've a couple of hours before opening up," he answered, joining her on the bed and sitting beside her, leaning on a hand and smiling down at her. "I don't know about you, but last night was rather surreal for me."
